Say Goodbye to Hollywood

So in my annual tradition I am (yet again) moving on from my current employment. It's always a bittersweet time where I spend lots of time contemplating whether or not I am doing the right thing, did I give this current place a fair shot? Should I stay? And so on. There is still a few months before I leave Southern New England  for the foreseeable future but I am moving out of Rhode Island within the next few weeks and parting ways with some friends at Sovereign and Sodex"ho" so I leave you all with this oddly fitting Billy Joel Song, thanks for everything!

Cake Trends 2012

Every year as more and more couples get married cake design trends change. Each year it is exciting to see what types of designs couples are going to look for. This year some of the trends are the following

  • Minimalist Cakes: Very elaborate fancy cakes were popular in 2011 and the trend is now swinging to mostly white or cream cakes that will be treated like blank canvases for cake designers. Patterns from fabric, invitations, wedding dresses and other themes will be hand painted, embossed or piped onto simple cake tiers in black, vibrant colors and pretty pastels.
  • Tall Cakes: Height with double tiers, stacked layers and elongated designs will make an appearance at weddings in 2012. This does not mean the cakes will be huge monstrosities but instead better constructed slim creations that rise up elegantly from a smaller base cake.
  • Fresh Fruit: Cakes will be decorated with pretty bunches of grapes, berries as well as whole citrus fruits between and on the tiers. Fruit will also be a theme when deciding cake flavor. Tropical accents such as mango, pineapple and even pomegranate are becoming hot with couples in 2012. Pairing these fresh tastes with a simple vanilla cake is absolutely perfect.
  • Flowers: Flowers are always a perpetual favorite for wedding cakes and will not disappear in 2012. Different types of flowers such as tulips, peonies, camellias, and hyacinths will be seen in the new year along with traditional roses. These gorgeous decorations will often be fresh instead of made from gum paste to reflect tight budgets. Hand formed flowers can be much more expensive than coordinating seasonal blooms.
  • Cake Pops: This cute little treats are immensely popular and will be featured at many weddings in 2012. They will be arranged on cupcake stand, set in vases as centerpieces and given away in tasty bouquets with a ribbon as wedding favors.
  • Feathers:Pretty embossed feather patterns, gum paste creations and real feathers will be perfect accents on both elegant and whimsical cakes. Lustre dust and glitter can be brushed over a feather pattern for a gorgeous effect on a simple tiered cake.
  • Cake Tables: Why only have one cake when you can create a cake buffet for your guests with an assortment of flavors, styles and shapes. Pretty single layer cakes decorated in coordinating designs can be a perfect solution when you simply can't choose one type of cake.
